the older UIQ 2 versions of P-Seires had quite a huge choice of software. The new UIQ 3 like M, W or P phones do not have a large amount of available software. and this after a very loooong period of development. SE didn't release the P990i on the market because there were not enough applications. As of today there are just a few compared to other platforms like S60, UIQ2, win mobile etc.

This is really a big concern which would make a choice for upcoming models like P1 or maybe UIQ 3.1 rather difficult.

If development doesn't increase in creating new software then I see sort of an end of UIQ sooner or later...

Number of available apps is very important to you? Planning to buy all of them? Then better run off and buy a Windows Mobile instead.

Handango currently lists 1957 titles for the P910 and 998 titles for P990. In November last year when I got my first P990 the number of titles for this phone where about half of what is available today. Almost 100 percent increase in about half a year. Is that so bad?

it's about as bad as most of the software is either very similar or useless and not even working properly - AND you have to pay for it. what's the difference between the pseudo today screen of P990i, aquacalender or handy day? they are all the same crap that does not match today screens we want in W950 or M600. there are lots of examples. and the fact that the number you listed shows that there are half of the software available for P990 than for P910 (and i don't really care about the time period as i want it now and not in 3 years) indicates that the future is not bright in development.

yes, in windows mobile i have more choice and since i have to pay for a device and it's not given me for free, i don't care talking bad about a company if i don't get what i should. if some guys take the P990i into bed because they love it...hm...

hi
what i think is very annoying is the lack of killer apps : magic profiles pro, magic launcher, magic screen...
my 2 cents..
this is why i keep my p910

Wabre's got a point there, at the end of the day, we the consumers have the right to demand anything that's within expectation, I'm quite frustrated that there's no Fring, IR remote or even flash player for UIQ3 for that matter after all the waiting. I'm blaming it on the security crap that requires everything to be signed. What good is that if it kills off the platform anyway?

yeah, there are loads of great software for windows mobile and i really get annoyed when checking pocket pc sites with their things.

to abubasim> yes, available software is very important to me! especially good software that makes SENSE using a smartphone. to install opera mini which i can install on a java 50 dollar phone is not a great development.

try to install divx player for UIQ...forget it, no signatures/security...on windows mobile you have TONS of media player and TCPMC or whatever the name is that plays full movies that do not have to be converted.

UIQ might be a good platform, but the versatility it should have we won't experience as nobody is giving it a try!

How old are you? Fifteen? What do you need a business phone for?

With all respect for users here, but the age does not matter and qualify for use of a device according to it! i am using my phone MAINLY for business but since it offers more why not using it. business software is a tool that microsoft is leading in it. the calender and tasks etc that P990i offers are not better than on a K750i. sync with a pc is not easy as well, but manageable.

those 3 or 4 finance programs it offers are not a huge choice and the office tools are...just 2! and it's MICROSOFT!
