Hi, first let me say I'm totally new to Esate and I do not know if this topic has been brought up before but here goes:

I'm currently looking for a new phone and found my likings are all among the Sony Ericsson brand of phone. Now I'm just an avarage user and I don't do anything fancy with them but I would like a phone with a decent camera (at least 2MP) but also one which plays mp3's with decent sound (when compared to the iPod for instance).

This lead me to a few choices: The K800i/K810i and the W850i (I dislike the W880i and the W950i is somewhat out of my price range.) I've also heard about new phones coming up soon, but since I don't know anything about them I'll leave them out for the moment.

Now I do like the 3.2MP camera on the K800/810i, but how is the music compared to the W850i and a real mp3 player like an iPod? Likewise, how does the camera on the W850i perform in comparison to the K800/810i and a real camera? I do know it does not have AutoFocus, but is this a big problem when taking pictures?

Maybe I'll think up some more questions later, but this is all for now. I thank you for your time.

Regards,
Ricardo

Well, since I'm getting a contract (I think it's called that way, I'm not an english speaker from birth) I can pretty much afford everything but the most expensive models like the W880 and W950. The K800/810i and the W850i are well within the limits my 'budget' goes.

Well personally I would go for the K810i.

It has TrackID and Stereo Bluetooth just like the W850i and has a superb camera too.

Here is a review from Mobile Review: -

The K810i is not much different from the K800i, so why should I take it over the K800i? I reckon the quality of the music isn't that good compared to a dedicated mp3 player.

I would like to encourage people who own one or the other to share their impressions and experience with these phones.

u wont b able 2 hear the difference in sound quality between K n W serier, unless u r a composer. get a good pair of headphones n problem solved for an average user.

k800 n k810 is identical, n camera is better than w850.

k810 is newer, slimer, lighter n more compact, n i fell that the keypad is better on k810 or it's just me.

Regarding K/W series sound quality compared to iPod: The iPod probably has the sh!ttiest sound quality out of all the expensive dedicated MP3 players. The only reason it's so popular is cuz it looks beautiful, and everyone follows everyone else.

When I listened to music on my W810i for the 1st time, I was blown away by the sound quality. It is AMAZING! Similarly, my K800i's sound quality is fantastic as well! Not as much bass as the W810i, cuz it lacks MegaBass, BUT I never used MegaBass with my W810i anyway, cuz I found that it created WAAAAY too much bass; esp. when paired with the bundled in-ear bud earphones lol.

I'd say go for the K800i over the K810i, if price is an issue (cuz they're virtually identical except slight dimension and keypad differences, and the K800i is cheaper), or if you're really strapped for cash and can't live without extreme bass, go with the W810i. By far the best W series out right now, cuz the W850 doesn't have autofocus (how stupid...), and it's also the cheapest between the K810i/K800i/W810i

Well, I'm not really low on money so I can afford a K800i (the K810i is pretty much the same as a K800i so not worth the €50 extra). The only thing which worries me is the camera, I've heard about the pictures being distorted or poor quality for a 3.2MP cam.

How about the S500, I like the design but I don't know if it can match the K800i/W810i in music (the cam is 2MP so the same as the W810i I reckon). I love slider phones, and seemingly SE is only starting to make them but I really like the S500 design.

Or should I just wait for the new phones that are to be announced? Time isn't really an issue, although I'm keen on getting a new phone with a nice camera to take on vacation this July. I do not have a normal camera. So time is running short if I want to do this.

Anyway, why is the W850i not recommended?

The reason why I (and maybe others before me) don't recommend the W850i is because its camera doesn't have autofocus. That alone sets it apart from the W810i (which has a brilliant 2mp camera).

Same goes with the S700i. It may look very sexy (so does the W850i, imo), it may have 3G, it may be very new, but it too doesn't have autofocus. To me (and I'm sure many other phone/camera users), a 2mp camera is not complete without autofocus. The function makes your photos that much better

As for the 3.2mp camera on both the K800i/K810i, yes, if you have shaky hands, you can produce some blurry photos, but once you get the hang of it, you can create works of art! The dedicated xenon flash helps a lot in low-light/dark conditions too!

So I'd either go for the K800i or K810i (personally, the K800i is perhaps the most elegant phone ever designed ), or you can wait a day or so and see what goodies SE has to offer!

I think I'll wait untill I see what's new from SE for the moment, but I'll keep to the K800i as my main choice, for now. I don't know if I'll be able to afford the new ones and when they will hit the store, so that's a major issue here.

I just wish there were more slider phones from SE, I've seen the 'supposed' new Walkman slider phone on some pictures, but I doubt it's a real one. Would be cool if it does exist and if it falls within my budget.
