> safest firmware for K800i
Bookmark topic
I recently purchased an SE K800i, and I've read a lot of articles about how their K800i has died(WSOD, blinking IR, etc). I'm new to SE and I don't want to modify my phone, but I've read somewhere that problems with K800i(dying phones) can be avoided with an updated firmware. I'd like to know if my f/w is safe enough for daily use or what f/w I should be on to keep it safe and running?

Hey mate, welcome to the forum
I suggest upgrade your firmware and also flash your EROM. The EROM you have now, R3A016, is not the oldest, nor is it new. You'd be best off flashing a newer EROM.
I've got R3A022 and my phone's perfect. I don't have any problems with it at all.
Your firmware, R1GB001 is kinda old too. Best flash it to a newer one, say, R1KC001 (the newest I think, not too sure) or R1JG001 (relatively new, but stable, imho, cuz I have it lol)
You can either use Wotan or Da Vinci. I recommend Wotan cuz it's cheaper, and I've had no problems with it. Da Vinci is pretty expensive.
Also check your CID. If it's CID49, I think you'll need to purchase 2 Wotan credits, cuz in order to flash newer firmware, you need a CID51/CID52 phone. So 1 credit to upgrade to CID51/52 (your choice, and only if necessary), and the 2nd credit to flash the new firmware.
Hope this helps

Just wondering, can't I just get it upgraded at an SE service center? I know so little about flashing SE phones which makes me wary of trying these things out.. although I can read about it here on the forums, doing it is a whole other thing for me. Which is why I'll consider your suggestion only when my unit messes up real bad. A friend says that if it ain't broke...
Anyway thanks for your input, RevoWution
