it would be interesting to hear how others followed the development in the last few months and years.

i bought myself a K750i 2 years ago and thought about ditching my digital camera (a nikon coolpix) as the performance of the phone was just fantastic. we all agree that for the big market the SE k750i was just the milestone in photographic performance of a mobile. i took thousands of pics with that phone, even in holidays and left my digital cam at home.

lots of people think that one day the digital cam would be an option as the phone would take its part. as of today i would say the following:

even though the digital camera in phones improved with SE or nokia or other companies, i just bought a canon powershot and i regret that i was not using it before! i broke my nikon coolpix nearly half a year ago and i was trying to figure out if it's better to go for a cam or for a K800i for example. today i am sooo happy i bought the digital cam. today a point and shoot is smaller than a phone, it's not expensive and it takes pictures and movies a phone can only dream of - and this in ANY circumstance. not only good light conditions. it's fast, the pictures are always nice and the size is not even to mention.

today i would leave my phone at home and instead take my cam with me! the new cameraphones have more megapixel and take better pics but are NOT a replacement in my opinion for a real digital cam and won't be in future. they just lack too many options i have in a real cam.

what do you think?

I think it is just a matter of time before phones start replacing cameras, at least a large section of the market. Traditional camera producers started forging alliances with mobile phone producers to "get a piece of the action" and I can't blame them.

Just think of what happened to the alarm clock. Does anybody buy those anymore? I know you can't compare the two but as for cameras are concerned, give it enough time and the low end segment will be replaced by phones.

mobile co. are capable of making good cameras. two years back it was K750 in the market. but in these two years they didn't improved the camera-ofcourse they are increasing the mp but quality wise they are keeping a safe distance. if they make better quality cameraphone who will buy digicam. but in coming years they can't stop the phones to take over the camera market.

It will soon become a trend that camfones will OUTDO digicams . . . (The technology) is getting there specially after seeing the 5 MP camfones that are already OUT in the market - N95 for example . . .

I find it that digicams still dominate the photography-market . . . the ratio which I think is that:

3-4 MP Digicam = 5 MP camera-phone (approx.)
