As the SE Service Centre have now tried three times to fix my p990i, and failed each time, they are going to swap my handset for a "remanufactured" one.
Has anyone any experience of this? Is it likely to be "as good as new" as the CS rep claimed? WDYT?

I'd like mine swapped with a 'remanufactured' one if it means they stuffed an extra 64mb RAM in

Means they are not going to give you a new phone, they are going to give you a unit that has for what ever reason been returned to

in the past and has undergone repairs or refurbishment.
If they have repaired or refurbished the unit properly it should be OK, if not, you will simply inherit soneone elses problem this is unacceptable.
Virgin did the same thing to my brother with a T68i he ended up with a phone that never worked properly.
How long have you had your phone this is key?
Tell the SE SC (in writing only) you want either a brand new replacement, or you are now "rejecting" the current unit as being unsuitable for the purpose for which it was sold under the sale of goods act (this is critical) they are obliged to sell goods of merchantable quality.
Then do exctly the same thing (in writing) with the network provider, and tell them you want your contract closed at no cost to yourself, due to them not being able to provide the service you contracted with them with the equipment provided.Or that they MUST provide you with a brand new unit that is of merchantable quality.
They will not like it and will try to talk their way out of it, if you need more help go to a citizens advice office and get a free consultation, do not accept this kind of poor service you have aright to get exactly what you piad for.
You may be lucky but in any case the sale of goods act protects you in the UK and use it to your advantage

I've only had the phone 3 months but for most of that time it's been in the SC.
I'm not optimistic that they can provide me with a fault-free refurbished phone as they never managed to fix the original fault! If they send me a decent model that works I'll leave it at that, but if (as I suspect may happen) I get another duff one, I will insist SE replace it with a new one.
The network aren't involved in this at all as I bought it SIM-free.

@raymartin01
Nitro has summed it up nicely for you the lack of a Network involved actually makes it simpler IMO one less person to shift the blame /responsibility to. I really would not accept a refurb unit especially if yours is only 3 months old demand a New Unit or a full refund nothing less, good luck.

Well, before you make a big fuzz with this, wait until you have the phone and check the Manufacture Date in the Battery Compartment. If it is close to now, it might be even a New Unit.
It is like with Dell in the US, they send out computer parts as Refurbished, but this is only for legal terminology. In reality, most of those parts are brand new!
SO you might get a NEW 'refurbished' one! Good Luck!

If he gets the phone he will have accepted their offer, Under UK law (I am assuming he is based in the UK) he needs to reject it now.
