Its not that i particularly want or need one, i actually have a couple lieing around which i've never used.
Just curious as to why all other networks seem to give away upto 4 free sims every other day, yet 3 is the ONLY network that doesn't seem to prefer that route of promotion...are they not losing out?

here you cannot port a 3g phone over to three - so what good is a free sim, if you have to buy a new three-phone to "join" that club?
what's that like in uk?

Well over here 3 Sims work in any sim-free non-3G handset, of course minus the 3G capablities, and as far i know 3 settings can put on any 3G phone, so the phone doesn't have to come from 3.

Do they really work in non 3g handsets? I have a couple that only work in 3g handsets.

The general concensus on the retail circuit is, if its not a UMTS phone (3G) then a Three sim card will work for around 20 minutes before being rejected by the network and barred from that phone working with that simcard.
By barred I mean Three will prevent that sim working with that phone, but any other sims will still work fine in that phone, and even another Three sim for about 20 minutes before it happens again. Likewise that then 'barred' Three sim will go in any other phone fine (3G permitting), just not that handset again.
It's like they bar that particular sim from that particular phone, more than likely a database with a list of IMEI/sim number match ups.
