Hi All,

I have been a supporter of SE since T610i. I really like the design of SE, combined with the (used to be) powerful features. But recently, I can see that SE is moving towards divergence instead of convergence. No doubt SE still make many nice phones but now they are splitting their technology into to two streams, aka the Cybershot and the Walkman brand.

In this direction, SE puts the best of the camera technology into one, and best of their music player into another. To me this is really an unhealthy trend. Who said one doesn't need a good camera when he/she is using a good music player? Come on what we really need is a convergence device which combines a good camera and music player into one with powerful platform (aka the symbian). In this compartment, I personally feel that Nokia has done a good job (with N95). At least they have thrown in everything they have with into little masterpiece (their best music player, their best camera, their best symbian platform.. and they even throw in the GPS though it's an old chip). Although some may argue that N95 does not have a good camera and the music playback is not as good but what I want to emphasize here is that they put in the best of their camera, music player and platform into one device. The keyword here is "THEIR BEST". Imagine the monster you will get if SE were to combine recent announced k850i and w960i into one device, I am sure it's going to be the dream device for me.

What about you all? Do you prefer convergence or divergence? if given a choice, which of the following device will u get? (i), (ii) or (iii)?
i) A convergence device that has all the features i need and I DON'T MIND PAYING A PREMIUM FOR IT, or..
ii) I just need a good camera phone
iii) I just need a good media player

With this post I am hoping to gather some opinions from you all regarding this issue. And I really hope that SE can hear us

Last but not least, thank you for your time and sorry for my long post but I am really sad to see the new trend in SE, and seriously consider to move away from SE at least for the coming generation (k850i and w960i).

PS: Moderator, is there anyway that i can make this into a poll? If can please help me to convert it into one. Thanks.

Are you kidding? Have you seen the Media Player 3.0 on the K850?
If that's not a good enough music player for you then I think you're a bit too fussy.
It's not like they left out mp3 support on the K850!

Do you wish SE makes only 1 phone every year with everything in it and charge $1500 for it?
It may suit you but people have different budgets and requirements.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. please don't forget megabass is not included in k850i, I really like the sound depth of megabass setting but sadly it's missing from k850i

in order to get the megabass, I'll have to turn to w960i, but then I'll lose the 5 megapix cam.. sad

Pfft, Megabass isn't everything. The media player on the K850 is very good - dare say, equal to or better than v2.0

The separation ensures that SE can maintain the Cyber-shot brand and the brand as quality devices in each of their fields. At the moment it's all about making money and marketing, and it's a lot easier to say than it is to say Music featured mobile with brilliant camera, because that just sounds ordinary.

Hi Shaliron,

thank you for all the wonderful insider's info so far.

to me, there are considerably difference in normal Bass setting compared to Megabass settings. Actually i prefer better sound than interface because once i started my music player i'll gladly leave the phone in my pocket. but having a good sound on the go is important to me.

Any idea how much cost are me talking about here with the inclusion of only 1 megabass sound setting? why would SE happily miss that out? is it that difficult to include just one sound setting?

and any idea will there be any update version of w960i that will come with the HSDPA chip? Thanks

it would be nice if SE did that

its a pity they do not though, SE could make something look beautiful and fully functional as well

Look this is turning into a SE vs nokia war. We already have a thread about this. This is just a remake of SE failing to produce good phones? Please continue there guys. Your saying exactly what I said in that thread. Theres no nead of a remake. There is 32, pages of it there. Read that instead of creating a new one! You could always go, to the "ultimate series W or k" aswell.

Regards the book man!

Do we need yet another thread about SE not making the right phones? We have about 3 a week and they always say the same things. I know people are a bit disappointed with some of the things SE do but wont one thread do?
