Just out of curiosity, why is this impossible with the R6 firmware?

chinese support is not out for R6 at the moment because it hasn't been released yet. It is available for all lower firmwares at present.

Ahh, I see; thanks! I read kaka2008's post incorrectly as the mobile device I was using wasn't rendering the Chinese characters...

If your CDA version is 162007/5 (Hong-Kong:CHS Generic) then R6D23 is available at SEUS that supports simplified Chinese.

There is some info on the updates here:
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P990i
I really wish SE would provide proper info, at least they should tell us when/if the latest update is available for traditional Chinese.

What language is 162008/68's user interface in? I was contemplating whether or not I should install the Singapore firmware onto my P990i when I get it. However, I'm still debating, because, it seems that with the file swap method with SEUS, some people are bricking their P990i's (but many others are successful which is confusing me).
