reminds me of the referendum here re. Nice Treaty (or some such treaty): the Irish, first time around, voted against it, and were indeed in the media described as fear-monger etc etc...and:"see what you did? Now we make you vote again and again, until you stop voting against it"...etc, and it wasn't pretty!
