> Numbers in phone book not coming up
Bookmark topic
Does anyone have any idea why sometimes in text messages and when i receive calls only the number comes up rather then the name from my phone book?
at first i thought it was just me being stupid but i can find no explanation for it. it is not because of the international part of the number (shouldnt make a difference anyway), its not because i have entered the number more then once in the phone book under different names, allthough it seems to only affect certain numbers
any ideas?

One idea: same number in two contacts?
I know it does not work (if you have two names with same number) in nokia phones, does not test on SE

I had a similar problem once

I turn my phone on because I thought it had switched off in my pocket when in fact the battery died. I kept trying as it would keep switching itself off. The next day when I started getting messages and calls, some would come up with the names and some wouldn't. All the details were in the address book but what I did find was that there was blank entries in the position list. I couldn't delete, change or move them and these were the ones affected.
I think that it uses the position list as an index/lookup table and it had somehow become corrupt.
The only way I could fixed it was to do a master reset and reload the phone book (don't worry if you haven't backed it up yet, the phone book won't be corrupted.)

I think you may have hit the nail on the head there, i too have the blank entries, which seem to be the ones affected.
looks like ill have to do a master reset, bit annoying really as i havent got IR or BT on my computer, so im not sure how ill back up the numbers, guess i could put them onto my sim card, but that only holds 90...and i guess i can kiss goodbye to all my screensavers, ringtones, backgrounds etc...
any idea why this happens with the phone book? has your phone been okay since?

Have you tried upgrading your software version? Upgrading software versions does help in solving flaws from previous versions.

Dont really want to get into software upgrades, ive only had the phone about a month (t68i) so its probably quite upto date anyway.
what does the master reset actually do? im a bit reluctant to do it as ive got a lot of numbers/screensavers/backgrounds/pics/ringtones on it, is there any alternative? would it not work if i just deleted the phone book and tried again? is there anyway i can change the positions?

I think i know whats happening, cos it took me ages to work it out.You know that when you switch your phone on & try to access the phone book or calender, it takes ages cos the phone has to re load them every time, thats quite normal on the t68i, right SO when you switch your phone on and a text has been waiting to arrive it turns up BEFORE the phone book has properly loaded so it cannot connect that number to a contact name so it shows the number, if you were to leave it & watch for a while as the phone book loads it suddenly shows the name.

that doesnt explain why they dont come up when a text is received after the phone has been turned on, and why the name doesnt come up when the text is in the inbox ie when the phone book is loaded,
or indeed why it happens on phone calls as well
any ideas?
