Images can have several outcomes, they can be a propaganda tool for a particular side of an argument, they can also serve as a historical reminder of what can happen when humans are allowed too much free reign.

Some of these images are disturbing but none the less I feel every child should be shown them in a history lesson...

freedom is not free

Shocking and thought provoking pictures, i agree entirely with you that these need be shown and talked about as a constant reminder of the kind of world we all live in.

These pics realy made me depressed even more I was before... Some of them almost made me cry to be honest! You know guys what's the problem? We are so lucky! All of us here! How many people in the world suffering and we don't do f*k all just crying like b*tch why we don't have an N95 or whatever... Just cloosing our eyes, turning our heads and thinking if we have enough Coke in the fridge or we need to let the Pizza guy know to get us some!? Strange world... Don't get me wrong, I have all designers, latest phones everything, but why we all like this? So many of these people don't even know what is a fridge! They don't even know what is a meat like, how it tastes.... Oh, god! I feel like shit!!!

Don't forget, many horrible things (perhaps more horrible than those images) occured BEFORE the invention of the camera ...

But it's a good thing this pictures bring us to the world reality, even if we can't do much to change it. We should live gratefully with what we have, and be mercyfull with the poor when given the chance. I think it's the least we could do, it's not good to torment oneself about these things, but neither to ignore them...

... I completely agree that those are (mostly) very powerful images, and I would have agreed with the notion that they are certainly "thought-provoking" as the author states - unfortunately s/he then goes on to destroy/self-defeat the "thought-provoking" bit, by writing some of the most trite, most banal, most cliche-ridden little mini-esays for every single one of those images! Not much thought provoked in him/her? yeah, yeah... boohoo Sorry, read them again! I think they should have been presented un-commented - as apparently they are so "thought-provoking"!!! And what's with churchill, the butcher of the middle east? If he hadn't been famous when the pic was taken, how would that image of a fat guy stand in a line with the other images? Thought provoking? maybe if you're Gillian Mckeith!
Sorry...
Great Images, big cliches - result: phony impresion on my cynical but educated mind!
There: a weekend ruined...
P.S. _ mccrosser, Good point - evil did not start with photography, but only yesterday I read a suppossedly serious book about terrorism called, eh, "terrorism" which actually claims, no kidding: terrorism was invented in the 1790's, because of the french revolution! the term terrorism in, vaguely, its current use was coined then, but, hell, NO terrorism before 1789??? there's thought-provocation!!!
