> Turning a P990 into a P1

Right, thats it.
Ive had ENOUGH.
All us people who have bought P990s, W950s, M600s etc. etc. etc. Have all experienced a crap firmware, where there seems to be no end of bugs, all affecting diffrent people, with diffrent firmware versions (i.e World Generic 1 - R6D23 - When holding down the spacebar, the phone numerical keypad dosen't come up anymore!!!)
And now theyve brought out the P1 (UIQ 3.1), which will probabily have less bugs now its been tried and tested on the phones with UIQ 3.0.
So we still have our P990s, W950s etc. with bugs, and, from some other posts in this forum, it seems like sony ericsson are now no longer producing firmware updates for our phones anymore, despite all our phones still bieng within the 2yr warranty period!!
So ive had enough. WE UIQ 3.0 owners are entitled to software updates, which we will never see again.
So, theres only one way to do it;
To put the P1 firmware onto our phones

.
Now heres the problem: HOW do we do it!?
Well I was thinking, like we can use SEUS to change our firmware type (i.e. Like Vodafone UK ---> World Generic 1), we could 'fool' the SEUS into thinking we have plugged in a P1, so it will download the P1 firmware, and install that.
Either that, or change a line in the phone's firmware itself where it shows the phone as a "P990" into making it appear as if its a P1, again fooling the SEUS.
Are there any other suggestions as to how to do this?
We have all spent alot of money on the P990, W950 etc. , theyre all expensive phones, even if it was a "free phone", we've still got an 18month contracts we signed up for, which still costs us in the form of line rental, and we can crack this, it'l be *in Borat accent* great success!

there is absolutely no way that would work on either the p990i, m600i, or w950i, as they all have completely different hardware to the p1

I thought the P1 was a UIQ3 device with different hardware to the P990?

hey, don't compare m600 fw with p990's, okay? m600 is much more stable than p990 so if you have a p990 and it's crappy, don't generalize.
about the software conversion... it wasn't even done from w950 to m600

I bought a P990 last year & niether of the statements in your post apply to me or reflect my experience with this model, so you need to reduce the parrameters of your use of the word "us".

The P1 is still UIQ3.0, unlike the Moto Z8.

Even if you don't touch the UIQ version, the P990 CANNOT be converted to P1 just because it's hardware. Just look at the look of the P990 and the P1. The display is size is different, the camera is different the places of the components are different. Also the keyboard layout so it cannot be converted. There may be a way to upgrade the UIQ of the P990 somehow (no one knows now) but it cannot be converted to P1. After all maybe we have seen a LOT of conversions between the K750/W800, K550/W610, K800/K810 and vice versa, but that conversions are available just because the hardware of the phones is the SAME and the components are placed in the exact places.

Although i agree that its most likely impossible, the position of th components being different is not a good arguement as they may still be conected to the motherboard in the same way, like on a motorcar, you can put the headlights on the roof, they will still work when you switch them on if they are connected into the loom the same, also people would get out of your way on Motorways, ...might try it....

Give it a go and find out, report back to us your findings
