Hi all,

This is my 1st post but i started reading posts here around a fortnight ago-thank you all as it has been most informative!

The last smart phone i used was a Ericsson R380 if any of you remember (loved it). I used a Nokia 6680 for a week then returned it-I have been using a 6230 for ages which is a great phone.

Now i know from what i read that many of you are programmers or working in IT. I work in the Media Industry. Please bear with me as i am not a very technical person, and, i am learning alot from this site.

I was after a 3G phone with advanced diary, Good quality camera-mp3+radio+full internet with keyboard +WLAN. My budget £200!

I searched everywhere for my requirements and i always end up with SE P990i-there is nothing else for my requirements. I admit i am not a power user but do use most functions-my favorite being colander and Notes.

So, despite reading the mostly negative experience's, i got a reconditioned one (B stock) from Expansys for £170! it met my budget!

I have been using it for a week or so and to be honest i think its fab. I updated to the last firmware from the SE site. I don't use Blackberry as its an additional cost. I have 75Mb of data a month which is more than enough for me to check my emails and websites. It has not crashed on me once (unlike that awful 6680). Its met my requirements. I think the camera is great for the phone and due to my work, i use it alot for quick snaps. WLAN was easy to set up and use. The internet is fast and opens all the websites i go to..

Overall im very happy, i do not know what a memory leak is but when i read about it on this site it sounded very worrying..with flip on, its cool as it looks and performs as a normal phone too..alarm works too..the only thing i would have liked is for Radio volume to increase..

Im sorry to hear that some of you cant get on with this phone-it obviouslt does not meet your requirements-but it's good for me and to be fair i would recommend it to people who share my requirements...

Oh but i do think that SE should keep supporting it and fix all the bugs-despite them not affecting me because one day they might.

Thank you for reading.

don't buy branded. unbranded n unlocked is the only way to go, i am a satisfied P990i user n loving it.

Thank you all for your words of support!

I don't think im techie enough to write a full review! Maybe someday i will...However, i don't think there's a point as the P990i will be discontiued fin a couple of months.

I have posted a comment in the P1 replacing P990i thread-according to SE sales in UK the P990i will stop being stocked with them in about a months time and be replaced with the P1-it was also confirmed to Sales that the P1 is the successor to the P990i for sure.....Off course, this is only a sales person that i spoke too-but he did say he has been there for years and is sure of his info...

Anyhow, back to the P990-yes i recommend to get the unbranded ones-they are going real cheap now-B stock at Expansys is now £150 inc Vat-i mean i know pay as you go phones that are more pricey-i think its a real bargain!

Anyhow for the price i paid, i think im getting a good deal-no regrets-it works fine-i shut it off completely every night battery lasts me around 3 days and i have a spare too- i love browsing the net and checking my emails from it-so fast!

My colleague has a real fancy Windows smartphone he got recently for around £400-i advised him against it-not because of windows but because of price! Even if i had the money, no way am i paying the same amount which would get me a laptop! The camera on his didn't even compare to the P990i-however, it did have a bigger keyboard-i dont know but it makes me very uncomfortable to have windows on my phone-i think its cuz it reminds me of work maybe?....

Ah well, there's more to life than work-and smart phones...my P990 is good fun and great for muti-media-its techie but i got a lot of 'it looks cool' comments-its no fashion phone...but i recommend you snap it up now whilst its available, stable (IMO), and, at a very low price! Enjoy...
