A UK teaching union is calling for mobile phones to be classed as potentially offensive weapons.

"NASUWT general secretary Chris Keates said the way pupils misused them to bully their teachers meant they should be banned from school premises.

Ms Keates is raising the issue of mobiles with ministers at a task force meeting on Tuesday.

She is particularly concerned about websites such as "ratemyteacher" and "bebo" which, she says, provide a vehicle for false allegations and abuse by pupils which can damage teachers' self esteem and careers.

Teachers use those sites too I read in the newspaper that a French teacher had done a blog and was talking about the schoolkids calling them little sh*ts and that they were thick.

some of the pupils saw this and it went from there!

Teachers should have rules in lesson and the kids should follow,
tbh though phones should be off or on silent in lessons and only used at breaktimes.

i think they take the rules for phones too far; they see the phone and take it off you

The only this I see here is that the kids want to have it their way & teachers are intimidated.

Simply ban usage of cellphones in schools.. But they've gotta keep in mind that they could be pretty useful during emergencies. Outside of school its the kids free will..

Even if you can bann them, they wil still be smuggled in & secretely used. Imagine in hostels.
