Lenovo bought the laptop and pc part of IBM a few years ago.

I like Thinkpads. They are normally very well built. I have had a 240x which was no bigger than a sheet of A4 and no about 1" thick, not bad for 1999. I am currently using a A20p which is from 2001 but has a hi res 15" screen and s-video in and out.
Thinkpad support is great. You can get any drivers from their website for any model and most operating systems. They also list all the parts and you can download repair guides for most models.
