Hi folks, many of you might be aware that i have always been a s60 supporter due to the versatility and the ease of use it offered.

I have been using the ngage qd over the last two years and it served me really very well. I bought an n73m two weeks ago thinkin that it will enhance my "mobile internet" experience. How wrong i was.

It seems as if this phone simply can't multitask. I cannot open more than two applications. I need to be logged in to an Im client and also want the browser to be open while i do that. Both do work simultaneously.. But things screw up in case someone calls. After the call ends, either of the application would have closed. Worse of all, i'm not even aware that i have been logged of my Im. Things use to work so well on my ngage. I dunno if this is specific to my phone.. But simply put, so far series 60 third edition has let me down. I still like the good ol s60 version. Slow and buggy but it does the job. I do acknowledge that these memory leaks might be starting troubles but in short, i have been let down. Still love s60 but someones gotta fix this!

EDIT: To add to my woes, the joystick on this phone has started to play up. I am now preparing to take this to the Nokia dealer and maybe ask for a replacement. But this has been a huge let down. I had looked forward to buy this phone for months saving money for it and now it feels the wait was not worth it. I still have my old, battered trustworthy ngage.

Are phones getting delicate as they get smarter? Three weeks of usage and the joysticks' gone kaput. Maybe i'll get an N95 AND DISPOSE THIS OFF

Crap.

@whizkidd

Which version firmware is your device running? and if it isn't the latest i would advise updating to the recently released version that offers considerable improvements for the device.

Unfortunately you are discovering the limitations of Symbian 9.1 which all S60 3rd Edition devices suffer from, in varying degrees. The best performing devices currently are E61 and i think the N76 but even these are not perfect. The now being released E90 addresses this issue by coming with 128MB Ram as hopefully will all new devices as it really is needed IMO.

As for it not being worth the upgrade i really can not agree with that at all the increased speed and the new browser offer a much better user experience IMO. Which IM messaging app are you using as this could also be what is eating your phones resources as some really are much better than others and can still be free and work well.

"It seems as if this phone simply can't multitask"

i think this has something to do with the available RAM to enable multitasking in a phone. it's a memory management problem in the part of the manufacturer( nokia ) imho not a problem on symbian S60

i'm just excited how will P1 and E90 perform multitasking very well with the promise of it's upgraded RAM storage

@razec

You seem a little mixed up Nokia is responsible for S60 which is the UI and Symbian is the underlying OS and it is the Symbian part of the equation that is now more Ram hungry than previous versions. Yes the E90 and the soon to be released P1 do address this issue by coming with 128mb Ram but i wouldn't really compare these two product's as the only thing they really share is the extra Ram and a 3.2mega pixel camera.

@dogmann, the firmware version I guess is:

V 3.0705.1.0.31
26/01/2007
rm 133

(Z5.01)

Is this what you wanted?

As for the IM client, I am using yahoo go atm but was on agile earlier but it expired. But on both, the issue remains the same.

Whats the latest firmware version and where do I update?

@Whizzkid

Yeah that was it and there is a newer version that you can either update yourself at home using the Nokia Software Updater or you can take it to Nokia Service Centre who should do it for free. This latest version does offer some major improvements including adding the AD2P profile for stereo bluetooth. I actually really miss the original YahooGo app that came with the N73 as IMO it is really excellent and much better than the YahooGo 2.0 app.

I would also advise looking at getting a good Task Manager Handy Taskman is if not the best one of the best IMO as unfortunately you do need to do some maintenance due to the RAM problems.
