Sony Ericsson has created a new dedicated UK role to head up retail and distribution.
Simon Beech has been appointed to look after the distributors and Phones 4u, as well as those retailers that Sony Ericsson doesn't have a direct trading relationship with – which includes general retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Woolworths and Argos.
Beech will report to sales director Nathan Vautier, who joined in mid-January. Vautier replaced Steve Wilson, who left to run Sony Ericsson's Australia, New Zealand and Fiji business.
Sony Ericsson's Carphone account will be the exception, as it will continue to be managed directly by Vautier.
Sony Ericsson UK MD John Harber said part of the reason for creating the role was to get closer to the likes of Tesco and Woolworths, and 'help with ranging, merchandising and execution'.
Beech has experience in telecoms and retail, having worked for Ericsson, a telecoms consultancy
and Tesco, where he was instrumental in establishing the retailer in Ireland.
