I want to swap a CID 49 camera for the older CID 36 camera. I want to do the same - but when buying a camera module:how can I be shure to buy a CID36 camera?

I want to do this due to quality issues. Take fotos with macro: nearly the same. Take Landscape pics and you see the difference.

Are there any differences or serial numbers? How can I distinguish between CID49 and CID36 camera modules?

Thanks for help!

As far as I know there's no difference in camera modules, they are identical - I've swapped many a module with no discernible difference in photo quality!

Any differences there might be would be dependent on firmware versions, not the module itself.

The camera as a hardware part is the same. The only difference may be the firmware and mostly the camera driver.

I cant agree with that: Take a landscape shot and then see the different in sharpnes. Close shots are good in both new and old phones...

Some folks here have changed the cam module from CID49 phone to the old CID36 phone: digitl 4x zoom works again and picture quality improved.

Here are picture one guy sent me who did it:

OLD cam - CID36

NEW cam - CID49

indeed. the cid49 camera is worst than the cid36. the cid49 has more noise.

The digital zoom is firmware dependent, it could just be that there is a bit of variation in the quality control of the units.

Damn, I thought they are completely the same... Sorry it's my mistake after all . But I don't get the point of producing the same phones with different new CID which has worse camera than the old one...

in the pictures we can easily see that the CID49 cam misses a lot of "chips". could this be the reason of the poor quality of the photos?
