I put a 500 meg video on my memory card and now i want to delete it, if i just delete it will it be gone and all that memory back or will there be some hidden file taking up memory which it left behind?

You will never see the full amount offered by any card especially once it has been used in any device that creates it's own folders within the card but your not talking about losing a huge amount of space.
What file was 500mb? as even for a Film that is huge IMO.
