Perhaps for the market place, we could have some members who are sales advisors. These people should know their way around the market place andknow a scam when they see one. They could be promoted to mod status as well. Then maybe we could stop scamming or dodgy sales (if any). Members could be saved the trouble of being scammed.

I know this won't be widely accepted but i posted it anyway. As if the mods would recruit more mods to the team and as if anyone would want to be bombarded with PM's.

Also i think esato needs more positions. eg mod newbie member. Oh well thats beyond the point. I would however like to here some views on my suggestions.

Sounds like a good idea, bit interesting to see what Masseur and Laffen think of the idea - even if it's something a bit more informal, i.e. someone people can PM if they have any queries or problems

I think there are members here more skilled at spotting scams than me.

I try to keep an eye out for behind-the-scenes signs that could suggest a problem but really I think the regular traders here are more likely to spot the scams and when they do I usually get a PM, investigate further and deal with it appropriately.

Once in a while something will always slip through the net and I don't think any of this suggestion will add any more safety than is already in place.

With a bit of common sense, it's generally easy to spot a scammer, besides, it doesn't hurt us, to use our own brain once in a while , in the "real world" we won't have this kind of protection either.

As for dodgy sales, done by long-time members, i.e. the blocked phones we've see too often lately, this sadly can't be foreseen by even the most experienced member, we've seen it happen to some of the regular sellers here.

just keep an eye out for another danlfc

But yeah, sounds a great idea SE4NICK but as masseur says scams usually just get PM'ed his way anyway

My advice:

1- If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, steer clear.
2- Only make a deal if you are 100% happy with every detail.
3- Communication is critical, make sure you have all the details you could need.
4- Ask questions, honest sellers are happy to help while scammers quickly become impatient.
5- Check users feedback but don't take it as a guarantee.
6- When looking at +ve refs also consider who they are from, I usually consider refs from other trusted traders to be a little more valuable than refs from a relatively unknown user.
7- Completely ignore anyone asking to ship to Nigeria or Romania for a great price.
8- Completely ignore anyone offering to pay by Western Union.
9- Completely ignore any PM's such as "I saw your item for sale and would like to buy 10 units for 300USD each and need them shipping immediately." I can't believe that these sort of messages could ever be successful but they seem to try non the less
10- Use common sense!

and there you have it, the first 'sales-advisor', mikLSP...! =)

on a side note, why not divide the sales forums into regions? say, europe, north america, APAC and so forth?
