I've searched but can't find any links to this so apologies if asked before.

I've just got tom tom for my w950i and I find on long journeys the w950 battery doesn't last very long. With my bluetooth gps receiver I got a cigarette lighter adaptor that you can plug a USB cable into.

When I tried this with the SE cable the phone will not charge. Is this a limitation of the phone or am i doing something wrong??

Any ideas - I really don't want to have to get a proper in car charger as I only have one cigarette lighter in the car and the USB way would be better as I can just swap the cables over as and when required.

Cheers

Not tried it with an SE phone but I used this method to charge my tytn which worked sometimes.
I suspect that the charger/usb bit can not supply enough current for the phone to charge.

I was about to suggest that the charging might be software-controlled, i.e. only works from a PC with appropriate drivers installed (my old Motorola RAZR wouldn't charge until you installed their crappy handset manager software!) but then I remembered both my SE phones (K800i and P990i) charge off USB without software.
