> Poor reviews of Walkman phones

I just bought latest What Hi Fi magazine and them being experts when it comes to sound quality it came as a suprise to me when they reviewed 6 mobiles all with mp3 high quality players in them and out of all of them the 2 SonyEricsson phones reviewed which were W880i and W950i both only got 3 stars out of five. Others including LG Shine Nokia 5300 some new Samsung phone and an HTC phone they were all rated for having better sound quality than the Walkman phones. Does anyone find this a shock or does anyone think Walkman phones are over rated.

W880 and W950 both have pretty pathetic sound quality considering they are walkman phones. Infact this goes for all W series phones.
N91 is the best in that regard.

To be honest no i am not surprised as this what i actually found myself when i was looking at getting a Music phone and really wasn't very impressed. But there are plenty that believe just because it is from SE and labelled Walkman guarantees it's going to perform which is just not so.

Yes i think many Nokia phones have just as good sound my 6300 is great. The Nokia 5300 was given 5 stars for sound but the HTC got top marks. So i would go with with What Hi Fis verdict as they know best when it comes to sound. I found Walkman phones too bassy and muffled and that horrible hiss sound and crackling.

If there's one thing Walkman phones should excel in, its SOUND. SE seems too interested in how tracks will change if we shake our butts.

I think SonyEricsson should do an over haul of the Walkman range cos even Mobile Choice latest review of W610i says its just another Walkman phone in another bland casing. Come on SE think of something new and exciting. My point though as well is that when it comes to dedicated mp3 players its not just Apple who are the only good ones same goes for SE. I am not here to slag off SE but they do need to be a bit more innovative and perhaps improve the sound too.

i am sorry to say but i checked the nokia 5300 sound quality with headphone that comes with it. it don't sound better than a ordinary FM receiver, that because of it's POOR quality headphone supplied with it's pack imo. (believe me its really really cheap quality). but i think they would have reviewed it with a good quality headphone. my point is that shouldn't they consider or review the whole pack?? don't you think it's a biased.

But it's rather disappointing for their premier music lineup.
