Is anyone else in Esato Land also experiencing this problem? ...

I have a T-mobile web'n'walk on my contract that up until last week worked flawlessly then all of a sudden a lot of my Java Apps ceased to retrieve Internet data.

Natuarally my first thought was that I'd messed up my settings. I checked them. I downloaded new ones from T-mobile. No help.

I dug out my spare handset which uses a T-mobile UK PAYG sim and ... the Java Apps couldn't retrieve Internet data. Yes, the settings were correct.

Then I tried an Orange sim as well as an O2 sim in both handsets and suitably reassigned the proper GPRS profiles and "Viola" Java apps on both handsets worked again over both networks.

So, as far as my handsets are concerned, T-mobile UK has decided I am not allowed to use certain Java Apps to access Internet.

Did I break the rules about VOIP or perr-to-peer usage? No I didn't. I have only used the handsets, without connecting a PC and stuck to T-mobile's T&Cs.

These are (some of) the Java apps they seem to be blocking...

Amaze (a Sat Nav program)
Google Maps
Opera Mini (this sometimes works but not usually)
Opera Mini 4 beta (usually blocked also)
Wayfinder Earth

Is this happening to you? If you are a T-mobile UK user can you reliably use Mini Opera or Google Earth?

I forgot to say... I called T-mobile twice this week and the operators assured me all was fine with my local transmitter (I've tried in other towns too) and said they knew of no blocking policies. I mentioned T-mobile in the USA had been reported to be blocking some things and the operators had never heard of such a thing.

Anyone else in the same boat?

No problems here! You tried deleting the app's then downloading them again?

Yes I downloaded Amaze again with no benefit. Actually T-mobile blocked the download of the voice files from within Amaze and I had to complete it with the O2 sim. But as I say, I have two handsets (K750i and W810i) and both are exhibiting the same problems.

Does your Blackberry use the normal webnwalk APN of general.t-mobile.uk or is it using a dedicated Blackberry APN ?

Standard APN! Also tried my SIM in a K810, N95 and and old K700 I had lying around and no probs at all-might be your SIM card! You know anyone else on T-Mobile who's SIM you could try in your phones?

Have you checked that your Java applications are using the correct data profile (as this can be separate within the data settings).

My Thanks to LoveWalrus and Marc_SE ...

Encouraged by the fact it is working for you I have re-installed Google Maps and that is now working at the moment. Mini-Opera (both versions) works intermittently - maybe the Opera servers are so slow the connection is lost.

I haven't altered any connection settings and now (today at any rate) Amaze connects enough to work out a route plan, but sadly it waits "to Infinity and Beyond" if I try to view a map (and it was reinstalled so it's not due to that).

But... It appears it's me / my handsets / my sims / or my nearby T-mobile network that's playing up and not a deliberate action by T-mobile. Phew!

I'm travelling around the UK this coming week so it will prove interesting to see how the Sat Nav side of things works out.

Thanks again for helping me out.

I will add to the encouragement by adding that since moving to t-mobile 18 months ago after many years at Vodafone I have not experienced any issues such as you have described on many devices that I have used

Update after a week.

I travelled to Lincolnshire and Internet connections worked just fine. Like they should.

Now, back in Kent, they are flakey again.

So it looks like my first suspicions were correct that the local transmitter(s) are 'broken' somehow.

Looks like another long phone call to T-mobile is in order

Thanks to all who responded.
