I just updated my phone's firmware to R6BC002 (on a K550i) and I've noticed something interesting - all my apps have full filesystem read/write permission! Even the ones that are in the 'untrusted' domain!

Further more if I explicitly set the permission to 'ask every time' and start the app it asks for permission once and then resets to 'never ask' - this second point is a cause for concern as it is a major breach of J2ME's security model.

I have no idea what caused this... All I can tell you is that I updated my firmware yesterday and I've been using MobyToday (trial version) and MiniCommander since then... though I doubt they have anything to do with it.

Any K550i users please confirm this...

For the w800i there is a patch to remove these permissions.

Glad that you finally found this feature. It's been there since R1KC001, and then R1KG001 and finally R6BC002. It's the new feature added for most DB2020 phones like K800, K810, K790, W880, K550, etc. It's already introduced since May. Great feature, really.

Thanks for the info,i updated to R6BC002 today..
java is updated to JP7.5.
In the permissons menu under read/write two more choices are added,'ask once' and 'never ask' for all java apps...Very useful

So i guess all JP7 based phones will get this once its updated..
