hi, I would like to ask the good and well-informed people of this forum for a suggestion on what phone I should get as a backup. my original phone is a K750i (that I begin to question if it's real or it's a K750c because the firmware has CHINA something if I don't mistaken) and it went dead (not powering on) after I updated it through SEUS so I've been without a phone for about 3 days (plus a few hours) and I worried that my SMS has been piling up. not that I received phone calls and playing music all the time, but a cellphone has been a must whenever I left home, in case I got lost

been looking and reading around the internet. budget is around US$100-300, would like to find a quad-band phone (as K850i is the one I want next, but looking at the keypad, it's pretty scary looking and I decide that I'd stick to my K750i for about another year or two) and a bar/slide phone. originally is considering Nokia 5700 but later realized that with that processor inside, the battery life must be pretty bad. beside the quad-band, I look for a phone that has radio, 3G ready or better, has a camera (at least 1MP), has WORKING bluetooth (my moto E398, V80, and Nokia 6260, 9500 communicator's bluetooth can't connect to comp or any other phone), and has a viewable display with lifelike color.

wanting a Nokia 6820 but is was only for Cingular/ATT. I use T-MOBILE.

seems like I asked so much.. what do you guys suggest?

p.s. I'm looking into Samsung D820 (because of the price and would like to know if this phone's parts are made in china (usually unreliable). anybody has any info on this?

if your after a phone for recieving texts making calls and using GPRS get a NOKIA 6100 there extremeley cheap and do the job, you can even buy camera attachments for them for a couple of dollars

save your money for the new phone and buy a $30 phone till your K750i is fixed up

And because you are on T-Mobile you don't have to look for a qudband phone So get something like a K610 or of the K800's moved down enough to be in your budget range.

He's gonna get his K750i back in the next few days though,
he'd be better off buying a cheap phone till he gets his other back and putting cash aside to buy his next higher end phone

thanks for the suggestion, miss uk & mustafabay

btw, miss uk, I'm a she, not a he

greatly appreciate the input. there's one more thing that I should ask the wise people of this forum. because I'm almost 99% sure that I'll be using 2 different phone brand, the sim card will be going back and forth between 2 different phone. will whatever stored in the sim card get messed up because of the different format? I never put the sim card to a non-SE phone, this is why I'm asking. just in case. I can simply go to any store and get a packaged T-Mobile prepaid kit, but then I'll be getting an extra sim card and an extra number, which I don't want. I even asked a T-Mobile local store if I can get just the phone itself, because I have a prepaid account w/ them, they said "sorry, all new phones must go with a contract". WHAT?! even if I pay full inflated T-Mobile price? "yes" .............argh!

the USA is going nowhere with phones nowadays, it's either 2 years contract with the provider or eBay. sucks. plus, the phones that's not offered by providers, if there's something happen to it, the manufacturer (SE USA, Nokia USA, or whatever brand) will say "send us your proof of purchase and we'll see what we can do for you because the phone is never intended to be released and used in the USA". argh again. argh argh argh! alternatively, they'll just tell you to send the phone to their warehouse and then about 2 weeks later send it back to you with a note "sorry we can't do a thing about your phone because it's not for release in the USA" (this is what happen w/ my 3 day old Moto E398 that went dead after it fell from my hand to the carpet, less than 30cm/1 ft distance).

Sorry for assuming you were a guy

right anyways when you entered your cellphone contacts did you save these to the Phone or Sim card?

if you have saved them to your Sim Card then you will be fine to use that card in any unlocked T-Mobile Cellphone

You have got a Bargain on your new phone btw $30 is a nice price I think it retails for more here in the United Kingdom

had a quick browse on T-Mobile.com the tariffs are pretty good unlimited everything does that mean free? if so wow..

can you get the Nokia N95 over there?
ok we might have a better range of phones but you guys do get some gadgets before us iPhone and PS3 for instance.. use brits had to wait a extra 2 months to get our PS3's and the prices were riddiculous £478.99 lol

anyways enjoy your new phone and hopefully you will get your other ammended asap

*Jojo* .....I think gender shouldn't make much difference when you need advice to fix your cellphone... ..or you're stuck at the picture of a female standing on the side of a road, waving every single guy she saw, to help her to change the tire? heheheh...

miss uk, well yes, can't argue about PS3 and iPhone ..but in cell phone department, this USA is a lot stricter than any country I know (all phone provided via provider is locked and they're unwilling to unlock even if you offer to pay for it, unless if you can somehow prove that you're really need to unlock the phone because it'll cost you your life LOL), beside lagging behind in cellphone technology (T-MO doesn't even offer faster speed other than the good ol' GPRS connection). and every phone that comes from outside is always treated like a virus trying to destroy the host

I don't quite get what you mean with everything free from the T-Mobile website. I don't know for sure if all providers do this, but usually for prepaid phones, you just pay for the number of minutes used, T-Mobile gives you about 1000 minutes for a $100 refill card. you can use the minute for phoning others, sms-ing, and mms-ing others too. you can't add any other service (insurance, wap, going to internet, etc) unless you subscribe their monthly plan that usually requires the 2 annoying years long of contract. drop out of contract within 2 years, they'll penalize you (not sure how much, usually $250). with the monthly plan, for the $ amount you pay, you'll get a set of minute for phoning, a set number of message (txt and mms), free roaming if you get the national plan, and free tech support for the length of the contract. everything else, you have to pay extra (wap is an extra $5.99 per month, just checking yesterday), unless you got the Sidekick. the sidekick comes with unlimited internet browsing and $1 a day for unlimited number of sms. that's what I know about T-Mobile here.

it's a good $30 deal that I got for the Nokia 6030 here. funny thing is, NokiaUSA website lists the same exact phone for $69.99! isn't that something? this super simple phone doesn't even have any method of connectivity! not even an infra red port... unbelievable. there's no way to physically change volume on this phone unless you get to the radio and change it. super strange! but it's colored (65K color, awesome for this price tag), supposedly sturdy and reliable like the old phones? haven't tried dropping it to the first floor or throwing it against the wall though LOL.. maybe later when hubby gets me the case, I'll think of "abusing" it.

I really don't know much about N95, hubby had and still trying to get his, but it seems the N95s being sold here are presumably made in china, plum colored, and hubby had read horror stories about them. he insisted in getting the "made-in-finland" ones, dunno how he's going to get it though.

Oh right so taking out a 2 year plan is a life sentence then
contracts in the Uk don't seem so bad you can actually pay them off if you must to get out of them, my cellphone provider 02 have rubbish pricey high GPRS and cos of this within the next 4 months im gonna cancel even though ive been a customer of theres for the past 7 years

Phones here are very easy to get hold of and some handsets are pretty reasonably priced, Networks don't really care what phone you use as long as it's unlocked it will work, Network providers will unlock there handsets for £15 for you or you could try a shop that sells phones

I think you got a bargain with your phone T-Mobile UK stock the Nokia 6070 for £69.99 on Prepay but it wasn't to long ago it had that one you have !

N95 is a good handset I can't remember where mine was made but I sold it lol needed the cash
