Hi all,
Owing to the amount of speculation and pontification being spouted about T-Mobiles HSDPA service and the N95 not being able to use 3.6mbps speeds i spoke to T-Mobile earlier.
The situation is not as has been stated by some that the N95 doesn't support HSDPA @3.6mbps at all. The current situation is this currently the T-Mobile network supports 1.8mbps and by the end of the Year will support 7.2mbps they are not implementing 3.6mbps and then 7.2mbps as when they introduce the 7.2mbps it means this will be the maximum speed and all speeds up to this will work. So in fact whilst i and most where only expecting 3.6mbps by the end of the Year T-Mobile are puling out all the stops and rolling out an even faster service.
So who ever claimed the N95 is deficient compared to other devices you need to check your facts as no devices on T-Mobile can run @3.6mbps as T-Mobile doesn't support it yet.
Marc

while I respect what Dogmann has posted is what he has been told over the phone, I've been searching for something on the t-mobile web site to further confirm this but unfortunately all I can find is a
press release dated 20 June last year stating that:
Next year, T-Mobile intends to increase HSDPA speeds up to 3.6 megabits per second. It intends following this with further increases through 7.2 and then 10 megabytes per second, targetting speeds in excess of 20 megabits per second by the end of the decade
can anyone fnid anything later than that which contradicts this press release and confirms what Dogmann has been told?

So which country in the world supports HSDPA at 3.6MB or higher? Japs excluding.

Hi Masseur,
I phoned T-Mobile this morning and got myself transferred to Data support and spoke to some one that both new and understood what i was talking about. They didn't give me a stock answer but went away and double checked that the information i was given was correct.
As you can imagine i believed 3.6mbps was due by Year end so being told it would be 7.2mbps was quite a pleasant surprise and a very positive sign of things to come.
As i have said previously i really do think next year is going to prove to be very exciting indeed for us Data device addicts and users. They where also quite happy to point out that they are the only Network currently working on releasing 7.2mbps, the other Networks are still 1.8mbps and working on 3.6mbps. Besisdes T-Mobile still having excellent Data packages there on going commitment to improving their Data services is very reassuring to me as a T-Mobile customer.

Croatian VIPnet network supports the speed of 7.2 Mbit/s in down-link

@Dogmann, its likely its correct if you didn't get it from the front line customer support (who we know can give 3 different answers if you call 3 times!) but you know what doubting thomas' here are like so I thought I'd try to back it up with something tangible

so this could be part of T-Mobiles involvement in release 7....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSPA%2B
HSPA+ (or HSPA Evolution) is a 3G mobile telephony protocol defined in 3GPP release 7 (expected in 2007). It enhances HSPA providing 42 Mbit/s on the downlink and 11 Mbit/s on the uplink.
(Not to be confused with HSOPA, a proposal for 3GPP Long Term Evolution expected for 2008 or later)
