Since my last post I've already received a few PM's asking me how to turn them off, so I'm guessing it's not as common knowledge as I thought it might have been. Therefore, I thought I'd post how I did it on here. I am running a debranded P990, so I'm not sure how it's done on Vodafone, Orange, etc.
1) Whilst on the desktop, press the "More" button.
2) Scroll down to "Shortcuts" and select.
3) There should be options to customize the up, left and down shortcut keys.
4) Underneath these options, there will be a tick box that says "Display Shortcut Indicator" - untick this, click save and your desktop icons will be deactivated.

Great find s32bauer! I assume it only works with the flip on!? I have the flip removed since day one and it would be damn cool if I could remove the Menu icons on the main screen.

Yeah, it only works with the flip on I'm afraid!

they do, but they go again if you dont touch the dial for 10 seconds. ideal really cos if you want them you can get them without opening the flip or using the buttons on the front.
