i was wondering how you would unlock the sony erickson? i can buy it through at&t but i have tmobile service?

I can't really answer that, but T-mobile is really nice about unlocking their phones, I just bought two T300s and got them unlocked within two weeks (I haven't tried to unlock them any earlier), it only took 2 days (including the weekend) to get the unlock code from them. Granted that I've been with them for over 16 months in good standing on a family plan.
I highly doubt that AT&T is as easy going as T-mobile when it comes to unlock a subsidized phone. If you're thinking about the Best Buy "no activation required" deal and get them to unlock without ever having an account with them all I have to say is "dream on!". Not going to happen......
Your best bet is:
a) get an unlocked phone for mucho dinero from a legal retailer or directly from SE.
b) get an unlocked phone from Ebay
c) get the AT&T phone and find an unlocking service that will re-flash it for you.
Note that the T300 T-mobile sells actually has customized firmware to T-mobile and I don't know if AT&T does the same or not (They probably do)

or you can send it in to people to unlock it for you... it is very easy... got to the software forum and search there, or go to howardforums.com and search there.... it is very easy....
