I have a film which is 800mb and I want to put it on DVD. A standard DVD is 4.7gb which is too small, can you get DVD's with more capacity?

cheers paul

you mean 8GB Paul?

if so you need a DL DVD but make sure your DVD recorder records DL DVD

DL being Dual layer DVD....

No the film is 800mb, but for some reason, when I try to burn it using Nero, it says that there is not enough capacity for the film to fit on.

Anyone have any ideas?

pmmerryman, you might be making a data cd instead of a data dvd..open nero startsmart and select data dvd from the menu. Then try writing it.

once you author it for VCD, the size marginally increases and it wont fit on to a CD. you would want to author it to DVD or .vob to make it a DVD video. which is a pain in the ass. those realease are to burned as .avi file so that it can be played in stand alone Divx players.

Yes it is an Avi file which I would like to watch on my DVD player. I have tried using Nero vision express, and this is where I am finding that the 800mb file will not fit onto a 4.7gb disc.

You can reduce the quality to make it fit. It normally asks you if you want to when it realises there is not enough disk space. I have done this and it has still looked good when played back on a dvd player.

you can take 5 800-MB movies and put them in a single 4.3 GB disc and play it on your dvd player if it supports xvid.
