hi,
I have a T68i on Orange, and have set up a dialup account with Freeserve.
I signed up, and recieved the SMS configuration, but the email appears not to work. It dials up... connects... tries to verify, then comes back with "cannot find server"
the WAP appears to work fine... which is what I don't understand. surely the configuration SMS's should have set my phone up to work fine...
anyone else using Freeserve as their dialup? did you get this problem?

ok...
apologies for diving in like this... but I hope you understand how frustrated I am.
after reading the messages on this board I found that entering the IP of the mail servers is the way to go.
did that
no joy
what dialup number should I be using? my phone is set to use +448450796699
is there any others I should be using?
I have a feeling that freeserve may have f**ked my phone with their stupid configuration.

It may be a SMTP server authentication issue. Try replacing the outgoing server with the orange SMTP server IP address.
193.35.131.155
I hope this helps.

Try this:
Menu>
Connect>
Data comm.>
Data accounts>
Add account?>
(call it Freeserve)
Phone number> (+448450796699)
User id> (the user id you use for your Freeserve)
Password> (the password you use to connect to Freeserve)
Password request> (Off)
Data rate (9.6 kbits/s)
Dial type> (Analogue)
DNS address> (up to you if you fill this in?)
Then do this:
Menu>
Messages>
E-mail>
Options>
Edit account>
Add new?>
(call it whatever you want)
Connect using> (the Freeserve data account you set-up)
Protocol> POP3
Inc. server> 195.92.193.154
Incoming port> 110
Mailbox> (your Freeserve user name)
Password> (your Freeserve password)
Outgoing server> 195.92.195.153 or the orange one 193.35.131.155
Outgoing port> 25
E-mail address> (your E-mail address)
Download> Headers+text
The other options are up to you.
If that doesn't work, you should consider getting GPRS, much easier than dial-ups.
By the way, if you already have an ISP E-mail account, why don't you just use that instead of starting a new one with Freeserve?
I just get my phone to pick up my ntlworld E-mail in exactly the same way that my PC does through Outlook.
Just a thought...

thanks!
i managed to send one email last night. (not a picture though, which was the point of the thing). it loses attatchments when you exit email, which is a pain.
now however... i did it again, and after about a minute of connection i am getting "server not found".
is the connection to freeserve somewhat erratic anyway?

I am in UK using T68i on Orange, I set up email with orange.net & had email (pop3)set up on my phone,i also setup the email alerts (free sms alerts from orange) everything worked fine including sending attachments (pics) of at least 50kb (havn`t tried any bigger).but early in november orange shut the isp service & recomended me taking out the freeserve "no ties" acount, i set that up at freeserve had a lot of problems getting it to work but it does work now (has done for weeks) & i still use the orange email address,i still get the sms email alerts from orange, but the dialup number is the freeserve one...the incomingserver is set to. pop.orange.net mailbox is my orange.net user name, password is my orange.net password, outgoing server is set to. smtp.orange.net, email address is my orange email add. (those settings are in the email menu setup of the phone, it`s set to connect using a freeserve acount in the DATA COMM menu of the phone the dialup number in this acount is +448450796699,the user id is my freeserve acount user id (the email address from the "@" symbal onwards) password is the freeserve one and DNS address is 195.92.195.94 hope this helps, pics are no prob but freeserve takes longer to connect than when i was using Orange.

I'm on GPRS - can freeserve be accessed via GPRS then? If so, how.

After 3 days of non stop trial and error and scanning the internet I found a way to send pics via e-mail on the T68i (and T68 i guess). If you are like me and have the sonyericsson camera for the phone but don't have an IR or bluetooth attached to PC and want to send pics via email instead then read on. NB my service provider is orange (UK) so i'm not sure how well this work on other networks.
1. you don't need a GPRS account to send pics via e-mail wap will do.
2. go to
www.freeserve.co.uk and get a no ties account and write down login details.
3. go to
www.orange.net and get an e-mail account and write down login details
4. go to data accounts on phone and enter
Add account:
call it Freeserve
Phone number: +448450796699
User id: everything after the @ sign (e.g xxxxx.freeserve.co.uk)
Password: the password you use to connect to Freeserve
Password request: (Off)
Data rate: (9.6 kbits/s)
Dial type: (Analogue)
DNS address:195.92.195.94
5. go to the e-mail options menu and enter
Add new:
call it freeservemail
Connect using: the Freeserve data account you set-up)
Protocol: POP3
Inc. server: pop.orange.net
Incoming port> 110
Mailbox> your orange.net username
Password> your orange.net password
Outgoing server> smtp.orange.net
Outgoing port> 25
E-mail address> your orange.net email
Download> Headers+text
FINISHED!!!!
when you send an attachment it will take quite a while. Thre maximum I ever sent was a 640*480 pic which was 65kb and took me 6mins to send
