How do you do to send text messages through e-mail?
Since you can send e-mail wia GPRS, that should reduce
the cost quite a bit.

Eh?

If GPRS is cheap/free where you are it might be cheaper to send SMS via GPRS, but I had heard that the providers still bill by the message and not as part of your GPRS allowance.

If you are after cheap SMS you should shop around for a good tariff from your local providers.
If you want to send email via your handset you can either:

(1) Configure your data and email accounts on your phone and use GPRS (your provider can help with this, and there are loads of threads on how to do it here)

(2) Configure your phone to send text messages in "EMail format" and send them to a local EMail Gateway

I am on O2 and I can send short e-mails. I can switch the service on an off.

My telephone number@mmail.co.uk

The sms reads like this.

'persons-e-mailaddress message'

somebody@yahoo.com hi, lets meet at 8.00pm.

the message/e-mail can only be a short one. 160 characters and I saved templates with the e-mail addresses that I need so I don't have to re-type!

So if i send and e-mail, it goes under my GPRS "alowence".
But if i sent an SMS as e-mail, i am charged as for an SMS?
Isn't a quite open/clear way of ripping people of?

Ok...here is the dilly - o.

There are two types of emails that you can send from this phone.

The first one is by going to messages->e-mail--->send and receive.....this requires WAP service in which you set up your POP3 or IMAP accounts. This one usually will cost folks $$. I still don't know how to do this properly yet although I can connect to wap.

The other one requires the use of regular text messaging. Go to messages --->text------> and then templates. Add a template starting with the person's email (somebody@loves.me). Leave the rest blank. Save the template. When you want to send that particular person a msg type the text after the email address and then send. It will ask you for a phone number. Type in 0000000000 which is ten zeros. This will send an email from your phone email to another email. This will not be an SMS msg.
