The latest K800 firmware (R1KG001) has the ability to remove Java prompts from java apps (new options in permissions - "ask once" and "never ask")

What other options do we want SE to introduce into their firmware that they usually leave to third party hackers (aka VKP Patches)?

Maybe they will see it and follow through! I feel that many people have avoided the K800 because they wanted to stick with their K750 with java restriction removal patch. Maybe SE saw this and realised it's pretty important that third party java apps can be useful without developers having to sign them.

A better default camera driver has to be next on the list!

Yes, good thinking. That's something that can't be done with java in a secure manner (other than for encryption of files, but folder's could only be locked while the java app is running) so more important that SE support the feature natively. A native lockable file system is overdue for handheld devices IMHO.

The usual wish list for me...

- native internet browser working in background mode.

- file transfer (BT IR cable) also in background like on Samsung phones.

- ability to create/organize sms folders at least on par with Nokia phones (especially since modern SE Java phones can store around 1000 sms. What's the point of not being able to at least sort/search through such a massive amount of messages...)

- WM smartphone-style phonebook searching (perfect for those used to T9 input)

- when plugging to a pc, option to recognize memory card only and ignore phone memory (which needs a driver). This way we can use the device very quickly just like a flash drive.

- as mentioned before, locks and passwords for sms, mms, email & file folders.

My biggest wish though is for SE to mass-produce affordable, non-touchscreen Symbian devices like Nokia does. I don't care if SE borrows the S60 format like Siemens did for SX-1; I just hope they retain all the positive aspects of the SE UI.

Not all of us need a qwerty/touch-screen PDA-phone. Right now I look at a beautiful K810 and can't help but think damn this isn't exactly a dumb "dumb phone" BUT....

hey chili, I agree 100% with your wish list.

K800/K810 not as versatile as s60 true, but some very powerful apps are available for the java platform. For example, decent file managers (mini commander for example - you don't need hacked opera mini to get a decent filemanager), file encryption, word and xls viewers, ftp clients, converters, dictionaries, calculators etc etc. And I can have seven of those guys open at once.

However I do agree some of this functionality would be better native, for example background browser. Actually that brings me to another of my wish list requests:

Ability to add shortcuts for specific java apps to the shortcut menu.
This would solve some of the problems with non-native apps.

Just off topic a little bit, I noticed my new K800 can copy and paste text (until now only SE smartphones could do so). Also I can browse the internet with my phone using my computer's internet connection and BT PAN, something I can't do on my Nokia N70 with so called "smart" os.

max - Hi buddy, actually the text copy & paste started with the JP-6 generation of SE phones (W810 and the rest of that batch). SE has decided to continue this feature in newer JP-6 and JP-7 phones, even in the low-end ones like the W300 and other 128 x 160 models.

It's one of the reasons why despite the great camera, I just couldn't "downgrade" from my JP-7 (K610) to a K750. The UI improvements are just too good!

Also, JP-7 phones, as you know, are speed demons when it comes to Java! Try playing Ancient Empires or Burning Tires on at least a K610 and you'll lose all appetite for playing it on a W810

Yep, actually I knew K610 had it (JP7 and the cut and paste) but not JP6. As you say, good reason not to downgrade to a K750 (even though it still is the best camera on a camera phone - even given the K800 - though hopefully a modded cam driver will sort that)

Your K610 has PAN too, have you tried accessing the PC internet with it?

For the strength of JP7 features, Bluetooth PAN and the 320x240 res screen, I can't go back to the K750 having now tasted the K800!

max it's true, there's really no going back once you've tasted the JP-7 generation. If only there was a way to upgrade W810 to Java 7.5...

But i swear man, i bought my niece a W300. It's got text copy and paste. Also I play with my friend's W810 a lot, same thing

Nope I haven't tried accessing PC internet from K610 pan, cuz i have no internet connection of my own to mess around with

Additional wishes:
- tougher joystick if ever SE will continue making joysticks. At least T610 quality or better, Nokia 6600 quality

- for the d-pads, no more of that cheap metallic paint that wears off after a few wks (W810, K610)

- increasingly sophisticated J2ME apps
