Hellow guys and girls ( if any )

a friend of mine need a new symbian UIQ phone ASAP, so he has two options P1i or P990i.. he can't wait as he need it in less than two weeks...

the P1i currenlty here in Bahrain cost's BD259 ( $685 / €500 ) and the P990i cost BD149 - BD159 depending on store ( $394 - $420 / €288 - €307 )...

as you can see, the P1i is more costly than P990i, the P990 is now as cheap as K810i and the rest ( not exactly but very close, less than $80 between them )...

but which one is better now for these prices, P1i or P990i, he want to replace his phone later with P3i after about 1 year, but in the same time he needs v.good phone ( not just tempo one ) as he may delay the change to 2 years depending on how deep his pocket is

Oh, there are some girls here .

As for your friends' phone : I think it's crucial how long he wants to use it.

For an only 1 year use, considering the huge price difference atm, I'd buy the P990i, in fact, I recently did .

But when he plans to use it for 2 years, the P1i would be better, because it's newer.

Definitely go for the P1i.

Yes it is more expensive, but having owned a P990 and now a P1i, the P1i is much better.

The screen is much better, the battery life is much better and the extra RAM is a huge improvement.

The P1i has a lot more RAM and is much faster and more stable than the P990 (Note: many pointed out that the P990 & P1i have the same CPU, which is true and hence should not be faster, but I can confirm that it certainly reacts and feels much faster, mainly I suspect because it is not always trying to free/balance up memory and can keep the applications always open in the background).

I am happily running EMO (corporate email client, very RAM heavy) + web + contacts + calender + messaging + wifi + golf game + java IM client + more all simultaneously without any problem, without any being shut down in the background, no stability problems and with 60+ MB RAM free.

The P990 is a great phone (I was very pleased with mine) and yes there are some great bargains to be had on it right now.

But I really like the P1 and it is in reality a much more mature P990 and worth the extra money IMHO, especially if your friend will have this for more than 1 year.

Hope this helps,

/Mike B.

At those days I use 2 phones: P990 and P1i prerelease (P123). I use P990 almost 1 year.

From my point of view P1 is much better. The display is sharp under sunlight, you can use this phone outside without problems - I cant say same for P990. Same is with keyboard - I like much P1/M600 keyboard concept, P990 full querty keyboard is too tiny for me. I can't understand why P990 has no today menu and 15 custom application shortcut is also another issue. I haven't experience with current version of P1 firmware, but prerelease version is very stable.

So my suggestion: take P1, it is much better. I can't say, that P990 is waste of money, but P1 is simply better.

I'd bought the P1. I had the m600 (same formfactor as P1) for almost a year then I got a P990 but couldn't stick with that one for more than a month, due to its size.
