you can try turning the phone to silent mode by holding down the # key until the message says silent mode is enabled. If that doesn't work then the phones file system will need hacking to enable silent camera shutter.

or flashing with a different variant of the firmware (such as that which is in your sisters phone) that allows silent mode using a service like davinci or wotan

@belial: do what max_wedge said. turn your phone into silent mode. if this does not work you should check the firmware version, customization, etc. to see if both are the same. this is a firmware issue for sure. you will have to do what masseur said to solve this

cheers

I flashed my phone to latest unbranded firmware, in Generic Australian Trade custom pack, and shutter still not silent. The only choice in firmware custom pack is the country/region, so I would have to find a region where shutter silencing is still legal (in Australia it's illegal to produce a camera phone with ability to silence the shutter)

I'd like to keep the region to Australia (though I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as I've got the english language). So I'll probably give the cmz_config hack a go, since after you've installed the modified cmz_config (using davinci), you can modify the File System without needing to use davinci any further.

you get the sound, even if it's in silent mode, for legal reasons. so you may change your firmware and customization.
