Do you have a memory card in the phone?
If you do try removing it & then switching the phone on again to see if the card is causing the problem.

Dude, to upgrade the firmware of your phone you just need to install a program from SE's site and then follow the instructions in it (it's kinda a wizard).
And what do you mean you can't connect your phone? That's why all new SE phones have USB cables in-box.
PS. You can also upgrade it directly from your phone (you need to have internet on your phone). Just go to Menu>Settings>Update service... or at least I think so...

There shouldn't be a problem provided you still have your phone's guarantee.
