I have been futively trying to get POP access setup on my t68i through tmobile. I have placed numerous calls to tmobile support and have read most of the posts in this forum regarding POP setup.
Basically all I want to do is POP my email from my phone. I was told today by tmobile that the only POP account I can access from my phone was the tmobile (vstream.com) account I have. I know this is not correct as I have read others who have been able to POP to other accounts.
I have a data connection setup for email with an APN of wap.voicestream.com and DNS of 216.155.175.40. On my email account setup I am using the IP of the POP and SMTP server and not the DNS names.
Can someone please help me get this figured out? The tmobile support guy today said he has heard of "no one" being able to POP to any other account other that the tmobile email account from a t68i. Help me prove him wrong.

Thanks.

Hi,

You need to get access enabled on your account for the "internet2.voicestream.com" APN. Then setup a data account on the phone that connects via that APN, and you can use that account with the e-mail client on the phone.

The standard "wap.voicestream.com" APN only gives you a private IP address that has access to their WAP gateway. The "internet2.voicestream.com" APN also gives you a private IP address, but it is routed through a NAT that gives full internet access.

(Note: When "internet2" access is turned on for your account, you'd still use the "wap" APN for WAP, because you can't connect to thier WAP gateway through the "internet2" APN.)

If you call back T-Mobile, and tell them you need to get "internet2" APN access enabled for your account, you should get further. You'll have to upgrade your plan, they have an unpublicized $5/month plan that you sign up for instead of the $2.99/month plan for normal WAP.

That should get your further along ... good luck!

I'm pretty sure someone posted the answer to your question in the forums already but I'll tell you anyway since I'm a nice person. First you need a smartphone account with T-mobile. This is done by getting the USD9.99 account. You CANNOT use the USD2.99 plan since they don't give you access to the correct APN. You then need to set up a GPRS account using the provided internet2.voicestream.com APN. After doing this you need to set up your mail account. You need to input the IP address of your pop3 server and smtp server. If you do not have auxillary use of your ISP's smtp server, you should nix the entire account and sign up for one at Hotpop.com. They will give you free access to their servers if you keep within your limit. If you exceed the prescribed messaging limit, they will automatically deduct it from your credit card. You do need a credit card in order to sign up for the mail account. It's cheap compared to what you pay your normal ISP.

Do as these guys told you. I called Tmobile about this issue and they said that the plan cost $9.99 not $5.99(are they trying to rip me off?). Whats the deal?

So, then I called back and insisted on the $5.99 plan and GOT IT. The lowdown is that your $2.99 plan is 1mb of wap. Your $5.99 gives you 1mb of wap and 1mb of internet. Your $9.99 plan gives you 1mb of wap and 2mb of internet access.

I will stick with the $5.99 thank you very much....

Also, you can get completely free email at: http://www.myrealbox.com no need for credit cards or anything else. You can even set up access to other accounts from that box.

good luck.

Thanks everyone for all of the help.

I gave tmobile a call and they tried to change me the $9.95 as well. I said "no thanks".

I am going to WAP enable my web mail service and get my email from mobile internet. Save myself some $$.

Again, thanks for the great information.
