Hi everyone, I've had my P1i for 24 hours now and am experiencing a few problems. Firstly, is there any way to make it so that incoming text messages are stored in the phone memory and not on my SIM card? Secondly, can I override sent messages being saved? I hate having to delete them, it's tedious. Also, when sending a text message I cannot for the life of me find the '&' symbol, having to type 'and' all the time is often the difference between sending one text and making it an extended text (2 texts). Most commonly used symbols can be located directly on the keypad and most others are available via the 'more' facility. Where is the '&' though??? Finally, how do I close down applications without having to go to task manager to end them? I am currently holding the back button to get to the main screen and then ending the application via task manager. This too is getting laborious!

After 24 hours my opinion of the phone is 50/50. I like the looks and build quality, I can possibly get used to the keypad but I find using basic function is very slow. Making a call and sending a text message take quite a while which is frustrating. The user interface seems very longwinded at times. This isn't a problem with most apps but making a call should be very fast.

welcome mate.

with the text, is there any reason you want them stored on the phone, as its not an issue for me.

with the sent items, you can 'mark all' from the More menu and delete. I dont bother, no need.

& symbol is four presses on the . key (left side of ok key)

With the text messages stored on the phone, you can store more. As soon as I installed my SIM card the P1i said that incoming texts were restricted as my SIM was full! It has been full for years but I always store in the phone memory. Sure I can work around it but a modern phone and especially a smartphone should be able to store far more than a standard phone of 3 years ago. Thanks for the '&' symbol!

im sure i had a similar thing with my M600 but it decided to store them on the phone on its own.

you need to have a play with your setup, i have my internet key set to standby so i have 1 touch access to the phone and my shortcuts, so contacts, new email and sms, contacts etc.

Also, what about ending applications such as the camera and internet without having to go to task manager to close them? Thanks.

as above mate. Once apps are loaded in RAM they react quicker so its best not to close as we have ample RAM. Leave it all open.

actually, just changed it to Task Manager as holding back gets you to the Standby screen quick enough.

Sunking, I don't understand your issue with making calls being long winded. Assuming you are on the Today screen, like any other dumb phone, you just key in the number you want to call and tap on the Call soft key. Why is that long winded?

You should definitely leave apps open now that there is so much RAM. As Caspa says, the phone is much faster this way. However, if it's really an issue for you, buy Swiss Manager Pro and set the memory reclaim level to suit your needs. You can also set it to cleanup when idle and it will shut apps down after some time.

dear mate, that is not an issue with P1i, there must be a way on how to store all your SMS' on the phone memory, it's just weird that the old SIM whose capacity of storing SMS' is limited to just 50, don't seem to have problem at all, that happens to my region where the maximum capacity of the SMS stored are only 50 on the SIM card and none of us has problematic experience storing them on the phone memory

and closing all the applications doesnt seem to be a wise choice nowadays, as it's already stated, applications that already opened and stored on the RAM, are faster to open as it's already mapped. and that shouldn't be bothering as you won't go running out of RAM with this device. that's not the case with the previous devices such as P990i, M600 and W950, whose memory is very limited
