> Why I'll probably sell my P1
Bookmark topic
I love Sony Ericsson and the P1 is a great piece of work. However, it is not a revolutionary phone. One thing that really bugs me is that you pretty much have to use THREE DIFFERENT modes of navigation and data entry: stylus, buttons, and touch screen. That is the reason I'll probably end of switching to another phone. It is not user friendly enough.

ouch! imo, they don't really need the stylus though, the touch of finger prints is more then enough

Yes, using a stylus is really inconvenient. The only thing I use the stylus for is when hand writing notes. I could use the keyboard for that though.

Why using stilo, then ?
Just keep using keys/fingers - what's the problem?
For me, the main reason I stick to P Series is multiple input ways: stilo, keys, and wheel (that's wheel that really makes the difference)
ps It's not that much for me
wish it had voice recog and eyeball movement sensor

I guess it's the way you look at it: it's the MOST friendly phone allowing you to use the keypad, the stylus and your finger on the touchscreen, whatever suits you best. Do you know any other phone and/or brand to do that?!

hmmmm.. it's not user friendly cause you can do things in multiple ways? i'm confused isn't that more user friendly cause it gives you more options...
having said that.. if you expected the p1i to be revolutionary you set yourself up for disappointment...

Sometimes having a lot of options is not a good idea. It can cause confusion. For example, there is a soft button on the screen to go back but it does not respond to my finger, only the stylus. It confuses me because I think I can use the finger. There are other soft buttons that are too small to use the finger accurately so again I have to use the stylus. Some places I can scroll with the finger and some places I have to use the wheel or the stylus to scroll. It is not intuitive as I have to memorize which places to use the stylus and which places to use the finger and or scroll wheel and hard buttons.
Maybe it's just me!
However, Blackberry was able to eliminate the stylus. Neonode and iPhone were able to eliminate both stylus and hard buttons. Have you ever tried one of those. You do everything with your finger so you don't have to take time to THINK if you should use the stylus, hard buttons, scroll wheel, or your finger.
Anyway, maybe I'm just built to use an all touch-screen or all hard button phone.

hmmm something is wrong with your finger lol... i can touch every part of the screen without using the stylus.. heck i can even do abc's with my finger
here's a pointer if you want one.. drag your finger around the screen and let go when you get to the "key" you want to touch... it works a little better...
having said that i use to hate touchscreen the screen on phones but now i've gotten quite use to it and find it fun minus all the smudges lol

I know what you mean, I find it all a bit laborious. I'll be doing fine with my finger and all of a sudden I'll need to get the stylus out. Small buttons are no good with big fingers! I'm warming to it though, it's kinda fun unless in a tricky one-handed situation whillst out and about! I have got used to using the camera and all its functions with the jog dial though, that's much easier.
