Evening,

I was in a Carphone Warehouse store today and amazingly they had a P1i in stock for me to play with. Not sure if the phone was so new it had never been started but I swear it took a good 3-5 minutes to boot. Is this normal?
(It was an O2 branded phone).

Anyhow, while playing with it the keypad lock kicked in. I found I could unlock it by pressing the back key on the left hand side, but wondered if there was a simple way to lock the keypad?
On most phones you can press the asterisk (*) key and then the lock key. I noticed I could press the asterisk, but then it asked me to press lock ... where is it?

In the end I used the stylus to press the lock menu item but would prefer it if I didn't have to use a key and the stylus ... seems a bit awkward.
Apologies now if this is a dumb question ... my last smart phone was a P900 and I skipped the first generation UIQ3 devices.

Thanks.

Nothing easier than pressing and holding the back key to either lock or unlock. As for the slow booting, it was the initial boot mate. It always takes a few minutes when first started from the box, the software installs and all the settings take effect, much like when you boot a new laptop. When I switch the phone on now it takes around 20 secs to get to the main screen.

It's normal if it never has been started before.

booting the p1 for the 1st time takes ages, 5min. is quite normal
however if it takes 5min. every time you boot the phone, something must be wrong.

Thanks everyone. That's looking more promising and good to know.
I only had a short time to play with the P1i (it was during my lunch break) and I've not had a UIQ phone since my P900 died on me last year.

Hmmm, I think I may have to go back to the carphone warehouse later today

well not an offtopic

can we add lock code to the P1i ??

I mean unlocking the phone requires entering a code or something, just to add more security from some peoples

Yes, you can add a phone lock and/or SIM lock via the security/locks menu.

It still works on P1 "you can press the asterisk (*) key and then the lock key" for unlocking or lockin the phone.
