Hello all,
I used to have a HTC TYTN, and i had a great app called Wififofum, which was a WIFI radar app.
Essentially whilst in london and i needed access to wifi, it would indicate were the nearest access point was.
I have been searching and searching and cant seem to find any apps for UIQ that assist with WIFI.
Does anyone know of such software, or at least point me in the right direction.
cheers

I don't know what you really mean, but P990 has built in WIFI...

Probably because the P1 or P990 do not need such an app, there is a perfectly good inbuilt application on the phone already.
Simply go into Control Panel->Connections->WLAN and enable WLAN (if not already enabled) and select Scan.
It will return a list of all available WiFi access points, tell you if they are open or encrypted and the signal strength (the better your signal strength, the closer you are to the WiFi access point). You then can select the access point you are interested in and select Connect to establish a connection.
Or is there something extra with Wififofum that I am not aware of ?

On the P990i you have to press the scan button for it to scan. Wififofum is constantly scanning and reporting on access points.

why would you want to have the phone scanning constantly for wifi points when you are rarely going to establish a connection with the majority of them? The amount of battery this app is going to waste your P990 wouldn't last for an hour. cost/benefit analysis...that kind of an app is def a P990 killer! lol

The answer is no, there is no such app for Symbian UI 3.0. If he needs, he needs it, don't change the topic.
...and let's face it Tytn (even with no 3dy party software and cooked roms) has better connectivity management.

Mike,
Thank you very much for this information, as of yet i have not got the P1i or W960, however one of the them will be my next upgrade in a few months and i have just started to research and collate the information on the apps that i will need.
I was unaware that this feature was built in. This is excellent, and now clearly shows me that UIQ SE phones are the way forward for me.
Thank you Mike and to all that assisted.

Slightly off topic but....
Why have you moved from the tytn to SE? After the P990 fiasco, it's quite likely that I'll go to something like the tytn as soon as I can!

Few reasons really,
1 - its too big and bulky
2 - camera is crap (and although i dont use it much, i like the quality too be there if i need it)
3 - i found it was more a pda before phone, and i am after phone before pda.
4 - i have never had a uiq and wanna try it, and at present UIQ phones seem to have an all round balance of phone capabilities, memory, connections types, camera etc.......... apart from the N95 which is a hungy battery eating monster!!!!!!!!
What was the whole fiasco with the p990 then!!! should i be concerned??
