Hi, i recently repeatedly tried downloading the Gmail application with my P1i. However, as soon as I click "Download now Gmail" (translated from Dutch, so text may not be exactly the same), I get to see the message "Can't install / Can't read the jad-file" (again translated, so sorry for any translation errors).

The only I can do next is to click "Continue" and the download or installation is cancelled...

I know there are people with a P1i who succeeded and I even called the SonyEricsson helpdesk, that couldn't find the problem. As a matter of fact, I even found a Gmail jar on the Internet, which I 'manually moved to my phone' and I could install that file without any problem. That just turned out to be the wrong version for the P1i, but anyway the installation doesn't seem to be the problem therefore.

Is there anyone who has the same problem, or are there people who managed to get the Gmail app installed and could possibly post the (right!) jar file for the P1i on this forum?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Greetings

wouldnt it be easier to just setup gmail using P1i's built in email client, just enable your POP3 within gmail?

1. The site http://gmail.com/app was where I got the error...

2. In some ways the pop config can be easy too, but the Gmail app has got a handy and (to my opinion) more convenient UI. That's why I preferred the Gmail app....

3. About the jar (gmail-g.jar) ... it seems to work, although I wonder whether this one's really meant for the P1i: this one doesn't always seem to recognize the stylus/clicks.

Thanks for these tips so far, although I hope to be able to download it from the Gmail website once, straight away. I don't understand why some can and I can't.

(For what it's worth ... in the Configurationscreen --> System Info, I get to see these (version) numbers:
- Telephone: CXC 162037 R9G007
- Bluetooth: CXC 162143 R1C
- Organiser: 162108 R6D23
- CDA: CDA 162024/54 R2A
Maybe I have a different software version?)

not exactly as network branding does change the firmware and can introduce bugs

I would just use the built in email client on your P1i. Much better if you ask me.

But going back to your post, although it doesn't help you much, I had no problems installing the gmail app for my P1i.

Just use the in-built e-mail client. Java sucks.

Yeah, I really start to think that too, now. I even got the latest SE firmware update ...
So I'm thinking about switching to the mail client now, indeed....
