i've owned a k500 but in terms of loudness of message, alerts, rington it seems (da k500) is louder than the P990.

Can updated firmware corect this.

Starting from R5A17 organizer fw the loudness has somewhat improved, but if high levelled speaker volume is a criteria then SE is not the one for you as their speaker volume is one of the lowest in the market AFAIK for some weird reason (since Sony is particularly noted for it's audio prowess)

Yeah, what you have is as loud as it gets, make sure you set your equalizer to 'loudness' for the highest possible volume. It could be louder if SE allowed custom settings in the equalizer, but they didn't so I'm still complaining. But I read somewhere that there are audio apps out there that could highten the speaker's audio level even further

LCG Jukebox does that. Actually the speaker volume and the wired headphone volume are acceptable, what I really have a problem with is the bluetooth stereo headphone volume, it's just way too low.
