Anyone managed to copy large files, eg. MP3s onto a P1i / P990 / M600 via the USB cable in file transfer mode under Linux?
I've not had any luck. It mounts the flash memory card drive and I can browse it, but I get IO errors when trying to write files to it (only about 32k gets copied).
cheers

Install the NTFS-3G software and try again...

I'll look into it, thanks. I thought USB flash drives are generally formatted FAT rather than NTFS?

Ofcourse they are. My bad, it was just the first thing coming to mind since you only had problems with writing which is exactly what NTFS-3G is for when using NTFS drives. It does however have a util for recognising addon-drives so it might work anyway. Worth a shot.
If you solve it please let me know how since I'm moving to an all linux platform in the near future.

I've not had any problems doing this with Ubuntu 7.04. Didn't have to consciously install anything extra.

Thanks cfrancolini, thats reassuring - so it *should* work

Could you say what mount options you use, or what options the automounter is using? dmesg output from when you plug it in might be helpful too.
cheers

which distro do you use?
i had no trouble with linux and my mobile phones.
if you keep having those trouble; might try installing vmware using a virtual windows.
i worked around with kubuntu/gentoo/mandivia and didn't have too many difficulties.
maybe your usb modules to the kernel are not installed or complete
don't know if it's an option;
try pclinuxos ..... is by fare the most desktop ready system.
i play with linux for 8yrs or so, .... pclinuxos is definitly the best i think

I'm currently on opensuse 10.0 I've been considering switching to ubuntu for a while, but I've alot of development work stuff tied into this setup at the moment so it would be a non trivial exercise

I need to wait for some downtime between projects before safely taking it on
If it works for you, could I ask you for your mtab/mount options and dmesg output too?
I just tried it on a friend's recently installed ubuntu laptop and it managed to copy the first megabyte or two of an mp3 before the rest of the file ended up being corrupted
