Does anyone know why the icons on my K800i are different to those on my mates K800i? Mine are boring and dull and his are full of colour and flash. Is it possible to update them? I have tried the SE update site but no joy.

Cheers.

Are either of your phones branded on a network (eg. your phone was bought through orange and your mates is sim free)

When buying through a network they often brand phones with their own version of the phones firmware, changing icons, menus and sometimes features. I would say this is the most likely reason for the difference although your mate could have also changed his icons himself.

Thanks for getting back so quick. He says he hasn't changed a thing, although you make a good point that mine is Organge and his is O2. I though things like the icons came as part of the phone from SE not the network companies. If it is the network people does that mean I'm stuck with what I have?

Thanks again.

o2 hardly brand their phones, but orange and vodafone are the worst for branding. orange has disabled the blogging feature as well i think on the k800i

Icons do come part of the phone although some networks actually change the icons themselves before selling the phone (as well as some other changes including menus, shortcuts, features ect.)

Although Orange have changed your icons it is possible to change them back to the phones default icons by changing the firmware to world generic using wotanserver, or other debranding services. If you need help with this you can use the search on this site to find some threads with help regarding debranding.

Hope this helps

I have an O2 UK K800i, there are 12 "Smileie's" on my phone. 4 are regular happy, sad , wink and Kiss. The pther 8 I have to go into the "Add Symbol" menu, I wouldn't have any idea where you can get more from. Try putting a question in the software section of the forum...
