this is my only other option as my blurtooth dongal dosen't work with vist!!! Grrrrr dam vista!
i could use the cable to access the memory card inside the phone, but i'd like to transfer files wirelesly if poss?

Thats probably the easiest way I can think of anyway. Another way would be to set up a http server on your computer and download the required files with the built in web browser. This would be slightly more time consuming as you would have to 'fetch' every file with the phones browser that you required!

I'd suggest giving mobileFtpd a go first.
