> P moniker harming sales?

Recently I've been thinking about getting the P1i phone, especially as my current contract is up. After speaking with Vodafone customer service it seems that they're not planning to stock the P1i any time soon.
Now I've read in the forums here that Orange don't appear to have any plans to bring this phone to their customers either, which just leaves T-Mobile as the only provider to make their mind up.
This currently means the only operator offering the phone is O2, which has got to be severely hurting sales for Sony Ericsson.
Looking around on this subject, it seems that Vodafone and Orange (at least) are saying the P990i had such stability problems and generated so many customer complaints that it's too risky to offer the new 'P' series phone.
If that's true I wonder how badly the P990 debacle has harmed the P series and whether it was wise of

to (re)brand their new phone as the P1i when it shares the same form factor as the M series?
I really hope the P1i is a success as I wouldn't want

to see two smart phone failures and start to reconsider their presence in the market.

meh... let them squirm a little.. there will always be a few of us to try out their products... i hope the p1i doesn't turn out to be major success because SE needs to learn the not to muck around.
the ones that have tried it out and are happy with it can buy it can keep SE smartphone line from facing extinction.. but that is enough... they need to work harder and bring out even better products..not just products that are "ok"
i love my p1i.. but i also welcome a new se product that can truly be new and exciting...and not just a band-aid solution...

Me too man I wouldn't want

to stop making these phones simply because of the failure of the P990 or p1i. I do have a serious beef with them about how they treated p990 users and some of the things that I think they need to add to the next series.
I am probably not going to buy the p1i but I would hope that it is a success so that they come with another well made P series phone,ie.the true success to the P910i since the p990 was/is somewhat of a failure and the p1i is more of a successor to the m600.

I think that "keyboard" probably hurts the sales more than the name.
