I bought some yesterday which say 1~16x. Does this mean that they are just 16x or 1-16x.
Sorry if this is a dumb question.

It means the fastest recording speed they have is 16x. 1-16x is the speeds it supports according to your DVD writer.

I have tried to burn a DVD to these new discs, and it keeps failing. I was wondering if it was down to the speed.
In the past I had always used 8x discs, but on buying some new ones I picked up the 16x type.
Below is the error on screen.

It says "Illegal Disc" ??
Maybe it has something to do with the copy protection present on the DVD your trying to copy. Try using some other copying software other than Nero. Try CloneDVD...

I think your burner isn't recognizing the disc. Try upgrading your burner firmware.

I have already tried VSO ConvertxtoDvd, and now tried using WinAvi, which copied the disc to Dvd, then tried burning it using Nero.
I will try to update burner firmware.
