Hi.
I have been using the P990 for the last 3 months, during which the phone has gone back to the service center 4 times due to an issue that no one here can seem to figure out. I am using a 2GB memory stick, I have also tried the same with a 1GB stick and the standard 64MB stick that comes with the phone. Regardless of how I transfer my mp3's, i.e. via disc2fone, usb file transfer, bluetooth, the issue is the same. I can transfer upto 20 songs, or around 120MB, and the anything transferred after that is not recognized by the phone. It has caused the phone to crash and restart and twice, it has crashed, and was not able to restart without being reset by the service center. Can anyone tell me why this is happening, how it can be fixed, whether it CAN be fixed. Is it a limitation of the phone, or should I upgrade the firmware from the SE website? Please note that we have tried the same thing with another P990 with the same results. Our location is Pakistan.
Cheers,
A. Saad

@asaad, have you tried copying your files using a card reader instead of using the usb cable? It's faster and should be relatively less problematic. I'm not sure what could be the cause of the problem, but since you've tried using different cards with the same results, I think we can assume the fault lies with the phone. So using a card reader may be a solution to get around your problem.

I believe that both of your cards (1/2 gb) are fake.
Those may not only crash, but even harm some parts of your phone.
Try to get a genuine sandisk or sony memory stick.
As for the 64 mb, you have to explain us first, how you managed to get 120 mb of data on it

thanks for the reply. That is an option that I will look into. However, if this is a problem with the phone, then how does one get it fixed? Would getting the new firmware help? currently, if I look at my system information, I see the following:
Phone: CXC 162037 R7A001
Bluetooth: CXC 162058 R4F01
Organizer: CXC 16236 R3B01
CDA: CDA 162008/64 R3A01

@myth:
dude... its a genuine SE card. I made sure the second time around when I got the 2gb card. The thing is that its just not my P990. The same thing has happened to my colleagues P990.

I am still inclined to think its firmware. My previous post has the details of firmware version.
Cheers,
saad

@asaad, as nikolap990 mentioned, try to see if you can upgrade your firmware. Also, as I suggested earlier on, try to see if you can transfer your files using a card-reader, it's much faster and more reliable as well. If that fails as well, then I think there may be some problems with your memory cards.

Firmware or not that should not be happening. However you should upgrade your firmware to the latest.
Then first try to use a card reader if available. If not try Disc2phone,then try the regular file transfer and then Bluetooth. Try them in that order.
The objective really is to try and put the music on the card without using the phone itself.
If not then try putting the songs onto the card using another phone such as a w810i or any other

phone.

@asaad
If your organizer version is R3B01, which is very old, then yes, it may be caused by the firmware, as I seem to remember that there were some problems with the memory stick in earlier fw versions.
But as per wiki (
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P990i ) R3B01 is already the latest fw version for your CDA (162008/64).
You should give SEUS a try (just to be sure) and if there is really no update available, you will have to change your CDA.
You have two options:
The free method:

And the easy method which will cost you € 8,- is here:

and the discussion on esato here:

A firmware update is strongly recommended, regardless if it solves your problem or not, since lots of bugs have been fixed and memory management & overall performance have been improved.
Good luck...
