> PC Suite does not find Update Service
Bookmark topic
I was previously checking for updates via the "SE Update Service" icon in PC Suite for Smartphones but when the update service could no longer identify my P1 I ended up uninstalling the Update Service and reinstalling. This solved the problem (although I still can't get the latest firmware as mine is a /55 CDA) but now when I click on the SE Update Service icon I am told that the application is not installed. However, I can open Update Service from its own icon on the desktop.
Can anyone advise me how to make PC Suite "see" my Update Service application? It's not a big deal but it is annoying. If I have to uninstall PC Suite as well how do I make sure I don't lose all my backups? Or perhaps the re-installed PC Suite will automatically find them wherever they are saved? Advice please, wise ones........

I do have the same problem. Regardless of the PC Suite, it is still accessible to where it is installed. We may be lucky if someone had figured out this.
Thanks,
Donn

Hi all,
after a little bit of research, I found a solution for this issue.
Please be aware that this fix needs a creation of a key in the registry. If you are not familiar with regedit don't blame me if you kill your PC.
Having said that, here we go:
1) Start regedit.exe
2) Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Update Service
3) Right mouseclick on Update Service -> New -> String Value
4) Name of this new StringValue must be "InstallLocation" (without the quotes)
5) Doubleclick InstallLocation and put in the value data field the following string "C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service" (also without quotes). If you installed the SE update service in another location on your PC, update the above value accordingly.
There you go

Wow, where do you guys learn all this from?!
@FreeBird, I did as you instructed and all is OK now. PC Suite now locates the Update Service. I just wonder how it was lost in the first place. Oh well, it doesn't matter now.
@Myth, for your info, Update Service wasn't greyed out in the File menu.
@doncat, hope this works for you too!
Cheers, all.
