Did SE finally grace us with an Arabic language pack for UIQ 3.0 or are we still at the mercy of the $50+ Psiloc software?

Is reflashing the firmware the only way?

Usually SE offers language packs for download. Or so I thought?

There is a language pack that has Arabic support. It is worth noting that this is the first official soloution from SE for Arabic input in all UIQs.

I have installed this language pack, and it actually worked! It gave me a full Arabic interface with Arabic input (via on-screen keyboard). But I didn't want the arabic interface. It confused the hell out of me as everything on the left was switched to the right etc...

When I changed back to the English (UK) interface, I couldn't figure out how to choose arabic input (reminds me of stupid old Nokias which required using the arabic interface to be able to input text in arabic).

Then... I upgraded my firmware to R6E30... and the language file is for R6D23 only... So no more arabic for me at the moment.

I'm not sure about the language versions mentioned in davinciteam's site. Earlier, there were reports of P1i prototypes with arabic keyboards.

I dunno if these actually made it out. It seems difficult, as they have no latin letters at all:

Scroll down to post by my name

Anyone with the CDA versions mentioned above?

Thanks for the info saab_rider.

At the least I'd like to be able to read Arabic messages sent to me. I wonder why the language packs are incompatible with firmware updates...especially that not much changed with R6E30.

Actually, my phone was able to read Arabic out of the box without installing any additional language pack.

I have CDA 162022/1 which is World Generic if I'm not mistaking.

Even after the update to R6E30 I was still able to read Arabic, but lost both the Arabic interface and Arabic input.

Maybe you need to check your CDA version and that would explain why you can't read arabic.

Actually it turns out that mine does too

Looks like I deduced too soon that if it's the same OS as the P990 and M600 that it has the same abilities.

Now all we need is a an arabic virtual keyboard and we're good to go. But I won't pay $50 for it.

As far as I have seen the world generic and the uk phones cab read and write arabic, you dont ned lanuage pack. To write arabic just click setup on virtual keyboard and choose arabic language.

You're absoloutely right! I thought it was strange to find that I could select "arabic" for predictive text, and not be able to input arabic!

When opening the soft keyboard, selecting arabic from the setup shows the arabic soft keyboard! I'm more happy now.

I guess the language pack is to add arabic UI.
